My Body, My Voice, our benefit series for the Brigid Alliance returns this Saturday, October 25th, and this time, we're going big. We're partnering with the Bechdel Project to curate a night of art and advocacy from 5-10pm at the LaGuardia Performing Arts Center. Hosted by Cameran Hebb, the night will feature a soul-stirring line up of songwriters, the NYC premiere of Pavement Kingdom by Courtney Bailey, a panel discussion with leading voices in the fight for reproductive justice, and an abundant raffle featuring original artwork from across the country, belly dancing classes, $100 of chocolate and much MUCH more. Tickets are available on a sliding scale to help aid with barriers of entry. Songs for Safe Access will run from 5 - 6:30pm and feature singer-songwriters and musical theatre composers performing selections from award-winning pieces such as The New Brown Musical, Heartbeats, Chasing Grace, Safe Hands, Angel Makers, Aya Aziz and many more.
Pavement Kingdom will start at 7pm. The new one act play by Courtney Bailey is about clinic escorting in the Midwest, where access to abortion care is largely restricted. Written after more than three years of volunteering as a clinic escort at Planned Parenthood, helping patients safely navigate past clinic protesters, the play follows "Charon," a clinic escort who loves to use her solitary time in the pavement kingdom to work on her comedy routine. Our Reproductive Panel Discussion will feature representatives from organizations including the Brigid Alliance, the Doula Project, and Planned Parenthood in conversation with and facilitated by Maria Aparo of the Bechdel Project. The Raffle features generous donations by more than 12 local artists and artisans. Will you leave with a new nail set, tattoo session booked, or comedy festival tickets? Our reception will conclude the evening, featuring music by Sandrinne Edstrom Comments are closed.
