Will they ever get out of the snow? Will they ever find the illusive yeti? Will they ever learn to share the spotlight? Grab some cocoa and get out your magnifying glasses! Musical theatre writing duo and rumored cryptozoologists Alara Magritte and Daniel Rosen emerge from hibernation for one night only to present a cozy cabaret of their award-winning original repertoire. Known for “their gift for scoring harmony and pushing the boundaries of subject matter in musical theater,” the pair’s catchy, genre-bending, and femme-centric work has been well received from coast to coast. Their efforts in the mythological creature hunting have thus been less fruitful... Featuring the glittering talents of Aliza Ciara, Nadia Duncan, Savidu Geevaratne, Cha Mangan, and Stefanie Richardson. Music direction by Allison Kraus.
Last year, our inaugural Snowed In with the Abominable Magritte & Rosen show ended up bringing with it the first snow day of the season... so make sure to bring a friend, a blanket, and those extra fuzzy socks. We are so grateful to announce that this year's My Body, My Voice mini festival was a success! Not only were we able to exceed our fundraising goal of $2K but we surpassed our stretch goal of $2.3K -- the average cost of services end to end. Thanks to everyone who came out to support bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom! If you missed the event but still want to contribute to an important cause, we encourage you to check out more about our beneficiary The Brigid Alliance, and consider donating to assist them in helping more people in need. Also a special thank you to our panelists Rickie Solinger, Vicki Bloom from The Doula Project, Michi Cárdenas from Planned Parenthood of Greater New York, Sarah Moeller from The Brigid Alliance, and Verónica Bayetti Flores.
My Body, My Voice, our benefit series for the Brigid Alliance returns this Saturday, October 25th, and this time, we're going big. We're partnering with the Bechdel Project to curate a night of art and advocacy from 5-10pm at the LaGuardia Performing Arts Center. Hosted by Cameran Hebb, the night will feature a soul-stirring line up of songwriters, the NYC premiere of Pavement Kingdom by Courtney Bailey, a panel discussion with leading voices in the fight for reproductive justice, and an abundant raffle featuring original artwork from across the country, belly dancing classes, $100 of chocolate and much MUCH more. Tickets are available on a sliding scale to help aid with barriers of entry. Songs for Safe Access will run from 5 - 6:30pm and feature singer-songwriters and musical theatre composers performing selections from award-winning pieces such as The New Brown Musical, Heartbeats, Chasing Grace, Safe Hands, Angel Makers, Aya Aziz and many more.
Pavement Kingdom will start at 7pm. The new one act play by Courtney Bailey is about clinic escorting in the Midwest, where access to abortion care is largely restricted. Written after more than three years of volunteering as a clinic escort at Planned Parenthood, helping patients safely navigate past clinic protesters, the play follows "Charon," a clinic escort who loves to use her solitary time in the pavement kingdom to work on her comedy routine. Our Reproductive Panel Discussion will feature representatives from organizations including the Brigid Alliance, the Doula Project, and Planned Parenthood in conversation with and facilitated by Maria Aparo of the Bechdel Project. The Raffle features generous donations by more than 12 local artists and artisans. Will you leave with a new nail set, tattoo session booked, or comedy festival tickets? Our reception will conclude the evening, featuring music by Sandrinne Edstrom Showpeople Theatre Collective recently dropped all the music all six teams cooked up during season 2 of the Showpeople Songwriting Showdown.

Magritte and Rosen are excited to announce they've joined the cast of Showpeople Theatre Collective's Songwriting Showdown, a reality competition that pits musical theatre composers and lyricists against each other in a series of songwriting challenges. Will Magritte & Rosen bop to the top or flop under the pressure?
The only way to find out is by tuning in when the series airs Sunday, May 11 at 8pm EST / 5pm PST here. We are excited to announce that we will be returning to Seattle this February for the premiere reading of DIRTY, a new comedy by Jayne Hubbard featuring nine new original Magritte & Rosen compositions.
The year is 1892. As business magnates continue to rally the community to rebuild after a glue fire destroys most of downtown Seattle, everyone looks to the wealthiest person in town: local brothel owner Madame Lou Graham. A historical fiction with lots of music, DIRTY explores the complex lives of the most powerful figures in town: Seattle’s sex workers. Featuring direction by Suz Pontillo and music direction by Nick Bringhurst, we invite you to join us at the Annex Theatre this February 4th and 5th to get a little dirty. |
